The Securities and Exchange Commission files a complaint against Xerox alleging that the company deceived the public between 1997 and ==2000== by employing several “accounting maneuvers,” the most significant of which was a change in when Xerox recorded revenue from copy machine leases. Xerox recognized a “sale” in the period a lease contract was signed, rather than recording the revenue over the course of the contract.
