Japanese programmer Yukihiro Matz Matsumoto, begins work on the Ruby programming language, which will be released to the public in 1995. Ruby is an interpreted, object-oriented programming language, which combines syntax inspired by Perl with Smalltalk-like object-oriented features. Ruby is specifically designed to be simpler than Perl and more object-oriented than Python. Its main implementation is free software distributed under an open-source license.
