The BBC files for a patent on Teledata, the first teletext system, which will later be renamed Ceefax.

1982
The Boston suburb of Marlborough, Massachusetts passes an ordinance barring the use of video games by anyone under age eighteen during school hours or late at night. The ordinance also bans arcade games within fifteen hundred feet of a public school.

Atari announces the My First Computer keyboard accessory for the Atari 2600 game system, to turn the system into into a personal computer.

1990

1993
Collabra Software, Inc., a collaborative software developer, is incorporated. In November of 1995, Netscape Communications, Inc. will acquire the company.

1996
Bandai Digital Entertainment unveils the Pippin Atmark computer. The system is licensed from Apple Computer, comes with keyboard, mouse, and a modem. It doesn’t include a monitor, but it plugs into a television. Visit an archived version of the official Pippin Atmark website.

The animated television sitcom The Simpsons airs its 167th episode, surpassing The Flintstones to become the longest-running animated series in history. Visit the official Simpson’s website.

Dataquest, a market research firm, reports that there are personal computers in approximately fifty percent of United States homes as of 1998.

2000
The E-Trade Group and ZDNet experience outages for up to two hours due to denial of service attacks (DoS) waged by an unknown Internet hacker, who will later be revealed to be a fifteen year old Canadian high school student known by the handle MafiaBoy. It is the third straight day of the DoS attacks conducted by MafiaBoy.

2001
A ship’s anchor severs the China-US Cable Network cable in the waters off Chongming, China, causing a temporary break in Internet connectivity between America and Asia.

The Dell dude – Ben Curtis – A.K.A. Stephen was arrested for buying a bag of marijuana in Manhattan. Dell instantly discontinued the “Dude, you’re getting a Dell” commercial.

Yahoo’s Board of Directors respond to the Microsoft Bid by refusing the initial offer.

2009
AMD add the Dragon Phenom II processors. The triple-core Phenom II X3 720 Black Edition processor is priced at $145, which AMD compares with Intel’s Core 2 Duo (dual-core) E8400 processor, priced at $163. The quad-core X4 810 processor (2.6GHz) is priced at $175 versus the Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 processor (2.33GHz), priced at $163.
