February 25, 2002: Gigabyte, Female Hacker of Sharpei, C#

February 25, 1999 – hacker Gigabyte hacks C# language[/caption] 1999 – Microsoft’s newest programming language at the time – C# (pronounced “C-Sharp”) was hacked on this day. The perpetrator was a seventeen year old female hacker from Belgium, calling herself “Gigabyte”. 2002 – Gigabyte posts the source code to the virus on her website. Kim Vanvaeck would be arrested in 2004 for writing the malicious code. The reason why she did it? I want to let people (and especially guys) know there ARE girls out there who like computers and for more than games. I think that’s quite important …...

January 25, 1881: The Oriental Telephone Company

1881 –  Alexander Graham Bell and Thomas Edison establish the Oriental Telephone Company of New York and the Angle-Indian Telephone Company Ltd. These companies were licensed to sell telephones in other countries such as Greese, Turkey, India, Japan, China and more. Countries recieving phones would have 3-digit numbers, which changed to 4, 5, then finally 7. It is unclear when the Oriental Bell Telephone company dissolved, but some of the phone lines they installed are still functional to this day, as according to this article by Indiatimes.com 1915 – 34 years after the company established, the first transcontinental call would be made....

February 25, 2014: Facebook Email Gets Discontinued

2014 – After several attempts to get people onto their own @facebook.com email system, Facebook throws in the proverbial towel. They issue a statement announcing their email service will be discontinued by March. The email service was implemented in November 15, 2010. It was part of their messaging campaign and a rival to Gmail, Yahoo mail and Outlook. Alas, they were not able to ween enough of those off the other free services. January 25, 2003: DDOS – SQL Slammer Worm

2003 – 5:30 AM. SQL Slammer worm caused a DDOS, infecting 75,000 within ten minutes. Christopher J. Rouland, the CTO of ISS, named it Slammer. The worm exploited a buffer overflow bug in Microsoft‘s SQL Server and Desktop Engine database products.
